About Lane Beats
Lane Beats is a rhythm game without the music. The screen is split into three lanes, and blocks slide down them. Near the bottom is a yellow line. When a block reaches it, tap that lane.
How it works
Tap anywhere in a lane to play it. On a keyboard, A, S and D are the left, middle and right lanes.
A block counts as hit if it is close to the line when you tap. If it is almost exactly centred, you score two points. A little early or late still scores one.
You have three lives. You lose one each time a block slides past the line unplayed, and also each time you tap a lane with no block near the line. That second rule is important. You cannot get through by tapping all three lanes constantly.
Blocks fall faster as the game goes on, and they come closer together.
Playing it well
Keep your eyes just above the line. You want to see each block for the last short stretch of its fall, not follow it down from the top.
Use more than one finger. On a phone, two thumbs cover three lanes easily. On a keyboard, rest three fingers on A, S and D.
Only tap when a block is there. If you are unsure, it is better to be slightly late than to tap an empty lane, because a late hit still scores.
When two blocks are close together in different lanes, take the lower one first. It sounds obvious, and under pressure it is the first thing people get wrong.
Find the pulse. Even without sound, the blocks arrive at a fairly regular pace.
Forty points is a good run. For rhythm-style HTML5 games it is as stripped down as they come.
